Situated south of both the Albaicín and La Alhambra, Granada's bustling center fans out around the Plaza Isabel la Católica, where Granada's two main roads- Gran Vía and Calle de los Reyes Católicos- meet.

With the 1492 victory over Granada, the Catholic Monarchs Fernando and Isabel picked this area of Granada to show off the monarchy's newfound presence in the city. While the Albaicín remains almost exactly as it was during Islamic times, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings dominate the Granada center. Today, as the center of town, you can spend quite a chunk of time meandering its shops, museums, monuments, and much more!
